THE ROLE:
Construction Controller | Innovative Life Sciences Construction Company | RETAINED
DESCRIPTION:
This retained search is being conducted on behalf of our innovative client who is a modular provider of cleanrooms, clean spaces, and cold storage solutions.
The Construction Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing and reviewing the financial operations for Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivables (AR) for our construction projects, ensuring accurate accounting, budget management, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction accounting, excellent analytical abilities, and communication skills. One should bring leadership experience to manage a growing team of four in the department. This leader also needs to be very hands-on, get into the weeds at all levels within the organization and across the various organizational verticals inclusive of working directly with external stakeholders and vendors.
HIGHLIGHTS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Managing both AP and AR departments and payroll.
Responsible for annual budget and monthly analysis of budget vs actual.
Maintain accurate accounting records including journal entries, expense allocations and accruals, for month end close.
Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of accounts receivable progress billings along with collections.
Prepare internal financial statements.
Oversee the payment process to vendors and subcontractors.
Monitor daily cash balances along with receivable and payable projections.
Aide in the processing of the bi-weekly payroll and related HR onboarding tasks.
Assist in the administration of the 401K plan.
Collaborate with project managers to analyze project budgets and research discrepancies and variances.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, industry regulations, and company policies.
Liaison with CPA firm for year-end taxes and Reviewed Financial Statements.
Work with CPA firm to give guidance to estimators, project managers and others on sales and use tax compliance in various states.
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or a CPA is preferred, but not required.
A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in construction accounting or a similar role within the construction industry with revenues of more than $50MM annually.
Proficiency in ADP Payroll Workforce Platform, QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Suite.
Familiarity with Autodesk Cloud Construction and Concur is a plus.
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including revenue recognition, project costing, and job costing.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail.
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
