Head of Molecular | Highly Attractive Global Pharmaceutical and Diagnostics Company

DESCRIPTION:

This retained search is being conducted on behalf of a global pharmaceutical and diagnostics company that has FDA approved innovative oncology diagnostics. Their highest priority is to improve diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to human health by enabling detection and analysis of important cells and to provide researches and oncologist the access to unparalleled precision in molecular characterization.

As Head of Molecular one will lead the development of companion diagnostics for novel and established cancer treatment regimens, provides leadership and management to scientific and technical staff in the R&D function, and ensures projects are resourced adequately and sound decisions are made to meet the goals and timelines of the projects. The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding of biomarker development, the oncology therapeutic landscape, assay development, and molecular diagnostics.

Location: This company is located in the metro Philadelphia area – in an area that is very commutable from many parts of NJ, as well.

HIGHLIGHTS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and execution of companion diagnostics and biomarker strategies for targeted therapies in oncology.

  • Provide molecular expertise to R&D and clinical development teams on the state-of-the-art companion diagnostic and biomarker assay technologies.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for NGS technology, provides guidance on experimental design, method or platform selection, and data management to address a specific need.

  • Keep abreast of new scientific/ technology development by participating in scientific meetings/seminars and through regular scientific review.

  • Extensive assay development experience utilizing Real-time PCR in a regulated laboratory.

    • Experience with Sanger Sequencing and Next Generation Sequencing.

    • Strong experience with PCR, q PCR, RT-qPCR.

  • Full theoretical and hands-on understanding and knowledge of molecular biology and genomics.

  • Apply advanced and expert scientific and product knowledge to NGS application development.

    • Oversee the design, development, qualification and validation of molecular based assay in support of pre-clinical and clinical trials.

  • Drives the implementation and growth of NGS technology, supports ongoing development, validation and troubleshooting of NGS assays, including targeted DNA-seq and RNA-seq, WES, and WGS.

    • Identify new applications, assist in product development working closely with business analyst and strategic marketing specialists.

    • Overseas operations of different NGS workflows; from sample preparation, library construction, data generation, data processing to interpretation of results, ensuring high level of quality and reliability of generated results.

  • Establish complete application workflow, sample preparation, sequencing conditions and post run analyses.

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in life or medical sciences with a minimum of 10 years of experience in diagnostics and/or pharmaceutical/biotech with history of success in product and assay development.

  • Candidate must be a rigorous, detail-oriented scientist, with excellent record keeping and organizational skills. Must be a highly flexible, results oriented, independent self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Outstanding expertise in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Next Generation Sequencing, or closely related fields. Demonstrated expertise in nucleic acid -chemistry, -biochemistry, or -biophysics, NGS assay development, or current sequencing technologies.

  • Expertise in development of molecular based assays / diagnostic assays is required.
