DESCRIPTION:

We have been retained to identify an Associate Director R&D Assay Development and Sample Prep Spatial Biology to join our client who is focused on opening a new frontier in spatial 3D genomics and multiomic analyses.

This is a unique multi-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups and disciplines including optics, engineering, bioinformatics, and molecular biology. The position requires building and leading a team of scientists developing chemistries and workflows to support multiple aspects of spatial omics applications such as cell and tissue permeabilization, fixation and probe hybridization as well as in-situ barcode creation and readout.

  • Our client is commercializing one of the most powerfully advantageous approaches in spatial biology.

  • One should have familiarity with single cell and/or spatial transcriptomics, fixation chemistry, Design of Experiments (DOE).

  • As well as advanced fluorescence imaging techniques and experience in microscopy image analysis.

HIGHLIGHTS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and develop a team of scientists focused on a variety of functions, including the development and optimization of novel workflows for permeabilization, fixation and probe hybridization on cells and tissue samples as well as integrating assays, instrumentation, nucleic acid barcoding, readout schemes and workflows for spatial -omic applications.

  • Support the optimization of nucleic probe chemistry and probe-based sequencing with spatial multi-omic profiling applications and testing of systems to meet product requirements.

  • Provide deep technical leadership to junior and senior members of the team in terms of technical approach and execution as well as hands-on support to reach department goals.

  • Prepare research plans, timelines, research reports and presentations to be shared with the team and executive management.

  • Develop best in class procedures and methods for high quality product development including robust data gathering, analysis and hypothesis testing, and accurate record keeping.

  • The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail and be able to critically analyze data and communicate results to the team.

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, chemical/biochemical engineering or a related field and 8-9+ (PhD) years of hands-on assay integration experience in an industrial setting.

  • Deep technical knowledge around key areas including cell culture, cell and tissue fixation, autofluorescence quenching and optimizing hybridization of nucleic acid probes to molecular targets.

  • Proficient in microscopy and standard molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid amplification and purification (RNA/DNA), qPCR, FISH, DNA sequencing, enzymatic ligation, nucleic acid fluorophore labeling, imaging buffer optimization, reagent formulation, or other similar molecular biology techniques and optimization.

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership and program development skills and experience in developing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and launching assays and workflows for commercialization.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage concurrent projects, and deliver timely results with a can-do attitude and sense of purpose.

  • Demonstrated experience having brought assay and reagent products through system test and integration to market and/or transferred to manufacturing operations.
